Upgrade Event 09.04.26
As fuel costs continue to rise, Spraoi
agus Spórt is offering households the chance to learn more about
cutting energy bills. A free Home Energy Upgrade Event will be held
tomorrow, on Friday 10th April, from 10am to 1pm at Carndonagh
Nursery & Garden Centre.
Spraoi agus Spórt chief executive Helen Nolan says it will offer
practical advice on reducing energy use and costs.
Anyone attending will learn about grants and supports available
through SEAI. Independent specialists and local suppliers will be on
hand throughout the event. These include BER assessors, technical
advisors, SEAI-registered contractors and heat pump and solar
installers. Financial providers, including banks and credit unions,
will be available to discuss funding options.
The Home Energy Upgrade Event is free to attend, but booking is

Water works in
Inishowen this week 24.03.26

Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) is
advising customers in Inishowen that essential reservoir cleaning
is taking place this week. Crews will be carrying out
these works on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, which may impact water supply to
customers in Moville, Ballymacarthur and surrounding areas.
Some people may experience reduced water pressure, temporary
discolouration or intermittent supply during or after the works
which will be carried out tomorrow between 7am and 10pm.
Thatch Repair
Grant Scheme 2026 24.03.26

The Thatch Repair Grant Scheme has
opened for applications. Now in its eighth year, the scheme assists
the owners and occupiers of historic thatched dwellings and
businesses with their maintenance and repair. The scheme allows for
small-scale thatch repairs from €500 up to €3,000. The scheme is
open for applications until 4pm on Wednesday, April 1st and is
funded by Donegal County Council and The Heritage Council.

Fatal road
traffic collision at St Johnston 25.02.26
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses
following a fatal two vehicle road traffic collision at St Johnston,
yesterday, Tuesday 24th February 2026. Emergency services were
alerted to the collision, involving a lorry and a car, which
occurred at around 11:15pm.
A male passenger of the car (in his late teens) was pronounced
deceased at the scene. His remains were conveyed to the morgue at
Letterkenny University Hospital. A second male passenger was
conveyed to Altnagelvin Hospital where he was later pronounced
deceased.
The male driver of the car (also in his late teens) was conveyed to
Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was later
transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
The R236 road was closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic
Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place. Gardaí are
appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come
forward.
Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were
travelling in the area between 10:45pm and 11:45pm on Tuesday 24th
February 2026 are asked to make this footage available to
investigating Gardaí.
